BOERNE – Jennings Anderson Ford recently hosted a Blood Drive with the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center, a commitment they have been making for the past 20 years. The Boerne community showed their support for this local event by stopping by and giving blood held at the Jennings Anderson Ford parking lot.
Event coordinator and Human Resources Manager at Jennings Anderson Ford, Linda Kay Bowman, proclaimed “I’m honored to be part of such a worthy cause and I challenge anyone who’s eligible to come out and help make this a successful drive. We have hosted the mobile blood unit many times in the past 20 years and we want to break a record on donations. Every donor receives a Texas flag T-shirt!”
Rosemary Stamper of the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center reported a constant and steady flow of donors for the entire time her mobile team opened their doors. Jennings Anderson employees took the call for donors seriously as they made for the majority of donations given.
An urgent need for donors is requested in order to help hospital patients in our area. Every three seconds someone needs blood, and one out of every 20 Texans will need blood at some point in their lives. Unfortunately, less than 5 percent of the eligible donor population gives blood. As many as three lives can be saved with one single donation. If you have questions, please call Donor Services at (210) 731-5555.
More people are encouraged to donate blood and to do so more frequently. As an added incentive to give more often, donors who give twice between May 1 and Sept. 30 will receive a $25 Wal-Mart gift card. So that it will be more convenient for the local donors to fulfill their second donation, Jennings Anderson Ford will be hosting a second blood drive Wednesday, Sept. 12.
